      OXFORD -- Eugene R. Beals, 84, of 27 Oxbow Road, North Oxford, a
      World War II veteran, died Thursday, Aug. 22, at home after an

      Beals; three sons, Earl Beals of Worcester, Dale Beals of Dudley
      and Russell Beals of Westboro; two daughters, Gail O'Day of
      Greenville, W.Va., and Joy A. Green of North Oxford; three
      sisters, Juanita Rideout of Mars Hill, Maine, Mildred Bradstreet
      of Brunswick, Maine, and Doris Terrill of Blaine, Maine; 20
      grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; three
      great-great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces,
      step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. A brother, Otis
      Beals, and a sister, Phyllis Beals, predeceased him. He was born
      in Blaine, son of Lyle and Annie M. (Van Tassel) Beals, and
      lived here more than 60 years. He was an Army veteran of World
      War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the Pacific, including
      the Philippines.

      Mr. Beals was a carpenter before retiring. He was a member of
      Veterans of Foreign Wars Oxford Post 5663 and Free Baptist
      Church in Blaine. He was an affiliate member of First Baptist
      Church of Oxford. He also enjoyed gardening.

      The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, in
      First Baptist Church of Oxford, 693 Main St., North Oxford.
      Burial, with military honors by the Oxford Memorial Guard, will
      be in North Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug.
      25, in Robert J. Miller-Oxford Funeral Home, 247 Main St. In
      lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist
      Church, PO Box 577, North Oxford, MA 01537; or to Free Baptist
      Church, Blaine, ME 04734.
